ECG Recording: EKG technicians attach electrodes to a patient's body to record the electrical signals produced by the heart. These signals are then converted into visual representations, or electrocardiograms, which are used for diagnostic purposes.

Monitor Heart Function: They continuously monitor patients' heart rhythms and alert medical professionals to any irregularities or abnormal patterns in the EKG.

Equipment Maintenance: EKG technicians ensure that the EKG machines are properly maintained and functioning correctly. They may also troubleshoot technical issues.

Patient Preparation: Before EKGs are performed, technicians prepare patients by explaining the procedure, positioning electrodes, and ensuring the patient is comfortable.

Record Keeping: They maintain accurate records of EKG procedures and the associated patient information.

Entry-Level EKG Technicians just starting in the field can expect an annual salary typically ranging from $30,000 to $40,000, although it may be lower in some regions. EKG technicians with a few years of experience and additional certifications or specialized skills may earn higher salaries. Their annual income can range from $40,000 to $60,000 or more.

What does the EKG Technician Program consist of?

- This 14-week program offers students entry level competencies training in preparation of taking the National Certification Exam. The program prepares you for a rewarding career in health care, shaping you to be an integral part of a dynamic, health-centered team.

Upon completing his program students will typically have acquired the knowledge and skills needed to perform various tasks and responsibilities in the field.

Students will be able to:

• Operate EKG equipment and perform various EKG procedures.
• Recognize normal and abnormal heart rhythms.
• Understand cardiac anatomy and physiology.
• Ensure patient comfort and safety during testing.
• Maintain accurate patient records.
• Prepare and maintain EKG equipment.
• Adhere to ethical healthcare practices.

• Gain real-world clinical experience.

DRESS CODE : A dress code is required for this program.  You are required to purchase and wear the approved color (teal blue) scrubs/uniform to each class and Hands-on training workshops. Closed toe shoes, not sandals are to be worn. You may purchase a white lab coat/jacket, but a disposable lab coat/jacket will be provided and should be always worn during clinicals/hands-on labs.

EKG Interpretation

- Identifying normal and abnormal heart rhythms

- Introduction to arrhythmias and heart disorders

Holter and Stress Testing

- Holter monitoring and event recorders

- Stress testing procedures

- Practice in administering and monitoring these tests

Clinical Practice and Certification Preparation

- Hands-on clinical experience, often in a hospital or healthcare setting

- Review for certification exams (e.g., Certified Electrocardiographic Technician or Certified EKG Technician)

- Preparing students for real-world EKG technician roles

Can I take this program online?

Unfortunately, this program is not currently offered as a Hybrid or Online program.  Due to the extent and variety of skills and knowledge taught, this program provides a solid foundation for the key skills and procedures at the patient care technician practice!

Is this program a Certificate of Completion or National Certification program?

Both!

Upon completion and passing the program, you will receive a Certificate of Completion for the program and will have the opportunity to take the national Certified EKG Technician Exam (CET). The price of the exam is included.

Note: In the healthcare field, professionalism, precision, and a commitment to patient well-being are paramount. Becoming an EKG Technician often entails obtaining relevant certification, such as Certified EKG Technician (CET). Achieving CET certification demonstrates a technician's dedication and competence, affirming their qualifications through a structured program of study and assessment.

Which National CET Certification does this program offer?

This program is designed to prepare students to successfully pass the CET (Certified EKG Technician) certification exams. Our curriculum is aligned with the standards set by both the National Performance Specialists (NPS) and the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). By completing this program, students will be well-equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to pass these certification exams and become certified EKG Technicians.
